About John & Julia Scott
For over four decades, John Scott has been one of the most respected and influential voices in the world of Ashtanga Yoga.
A direct student of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois since 1989 and personally certified by him, John has dedicated his life to exploring and sharing the profound depth of the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method. Rather than seeking to change the practice, he has spent decades delving ever more deeply into its essence, uncovering the subtle intelligence that lies within it. Over the past four decades, he has inspired and trained generations of practitioners and teachers around the world, becoming one of the most respected and influential figures in contemporary Ashtanga Yoga.
This lifelong depth of inquiry is reflected in his teaching. Outstanding, gentle, deeply grounded, and profoundly transformative, John's classes leave a lasting impression on those who practise with him, opening the door to a richer understanding of the yoga experience. Through movement, breath, and awareness, he guides students beyond technique, helping them "transcend the ordinary thinking mind" and discover the transformative power that resides within the traditional practice itself.
Now based in Sardinia, where he is building his own yoga shala, John continues to share his knowledge ans inspire students from every corner of the world.
Alongside him is Julia Scott, lovingly known as Brahmama, whose work beautifully complements John's teaching. Through breathwork, mantra, meditation, and the transformative power of sacred sound, Julia creates an atmosphere of openness, connection, and presence. Her gentle guidance invites students to experience stillness, deepen their inner awareness, and discover the profound effect that breath and vibration have on body, mind, and heart.
John and Julia have been cherished guest teachers of the YIS family for almost a decade, and we are deeply honoured to welcome them back to celebrate our 20th Anniversary.
