John Scott & Lucy Scott

New Zealander by birth, John originally studied Industrial Design both in New Zealand and Australia to graduate with a Batchelor of Applied Science in Industrial Design.

John is a dedicated and direct student of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois since 1989. John was introduced to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga by Derek Island 22 years ago, while traveling through Europe. Two years later John began his studies with Guruji – Shri K Pattabhi Jois of Mysore India, and since then has continued to grow in the practice and share the practice with many other students on the path of yoga.

In 1993 John was certified to teach Ashtanga Yoga by Shri K Pattabhi Jois. John incorporates design philosophies with yoga philosophies adding a very precise, detailed and colourful metaphorical presentation to his teaching.

His highly individual, analytical and sensitive approach touches deeply the students who work with him – resulting in a strong following. John now mainly teaches “Mysore Style” and “Vinyasa Counting” at Stillpoint with Lucy. Stillpoint is the 3rd Centre that John and Lucy have created together while parenting two children.

They have been pioneers in the yoga world travelling many times to Mysore with two babies. John and Lucy’s teaching reputation is world-wide, presenting workshops internationally for the past 15 years. John, with Lucy, has produced a best-selling book, “Ashtanga Yoga”, and a counted primary series DVD, and is currently writing a series of books based on his personal experience of this practice (suitable for all levels of practitioner).

John is also known for his illustrations/charts (line drawings) of Ashtanga Yoga Primary and Intermediate and Advanced Series, which continue to circulate Worldwide, having been published in chart form and then later in book form in “Astanga Yoga”, by Lino Miele.

Lucy is a dedicated and direct student of Shri K Pattabhi Jois, since 1993.

Born in London, Lucy has over sixteen years of experience in physical therapies. Graduating from the Rayworth Centre of Sports Medicine in 1990 as a Holistic Aromatherapist – Lucy continued her study of Healing and massage, including study with Ken Eyerman in London and later qualifying in Chavutti Thirimal (Ayurvedic Foot Pressure Massage) in South India. Lucy is also a qualified Craniosacral Therapist, having trained in Craniosacral Bio-dynamics with Franklin Sills at the Karuna Institute in Devon England.

Lucy’s ability to perceive energetic patterns within the body and to feel the movements of energy as tangible physical phenomena combined with her skills as a body worker and understanding of the structural body, both feed into Lucy’s unique asana adjustments for which she has become known in the Ashtanga field.

In 1998 Lucy received Shri K Pattabhi Jois’s Blessing to Teach Ashtanga Yoga. Lucy was also involved in the writing of Lino Miele’s “Astanga Yoga” and also played a very active role in the Writing of John Scott’s “Ashtanga Yoga”, as well as teaching along side John since 1994.
