The Sanskrit word Ayurveda can be translated as
“the knowledge of life” and indicates a system of olistic medicine.
Since it dates more than 5 thousand years, Ayurveda is
the oldest Science of Health. It's not only a medical system, it's a path that leads to awareness and self realization,
to the awakening of our inner self, in respect of ourselves,
of the planet and all the creature.

What is Ayurveda

Ayurveda – science of life

The meaning of Ayurveda is reflected in its name: in Sanskrit ayus means life and veda is science. Even after thousands of years this discipline remains contemporary thanks to the teachings handed down to students by the masters, knowledge which has been gained from books and acquired by experience and everyday practice.

The Ayurveda concept of health is not limited to the absence of illness, but rather it takes into consideration the state of harmony between body, mind and soul, and the capacity of the individual to develop a serene relationship with life, to manage it in the best way according to one’s own disposition and to generate happiness for oneself and others.

Ayurveda never considers illness an isolated fact and its therapies do not treat just symptoms or a particular organ but the whole being. Indian medicine favours slow and gradual treatments and its prescriptions consist of hygienic, nutritional and behavioural practices, herbal remedies, minerals, infusions, massage and yoga exercises.

Every Ayurvedic remedy is a tonic; these therapies are not prescribed with the aim to destroy an invading organism, but in order to restabilize a balanced environment in which germs find themselves in territory hostile to their survival, i.e. in a reinforced immune system.

Although coherent and logical Ayurveda is not rooted in a particular dogma and has a dynamic and universal character just like life itself. It does not belong exclusively to one particular culture, religion or country, but offers well-being to everyone. The medicines and diets can vary, but the underlying principles remain constant.

Caraka, author of one of the most important Ayurvedic works, the Caraka Samhita, defines Ayurveda as “the discipline thanks to which it is possible to distinguish the healthy and happy ways of life from those harmful and unhappy, and so to know what is good and what is bad for health and happiness and learn the real nature of life.”

As our lifestyle becomes increasingly stressful, Ayurveda assists us in preventing illness, maintaining our health and internal balance to ensure our future longevity.
Ayurveda considering us as a union between mind, body and spirit, teaches us how to reunite them in order to achieve Health and Well Being through lifestyle reccomendations,
diet, yoga, meditation, herbal remedies and PanchaKarma Therapy.
Ayurveda is also the mother of antiaging and rejuvination therapies incorporating the Science of Rasayana and the herbal remedies which are designed to rejuvinate the mind and the body.

According to Ayurveda, the material world is made up by the five elements:
air, ether, water, fire and earth. The 5 elements, also join together to form the Doshas.
The Doshas are Vatta (ether and air), Pitta (fire and water) and Kapha (earth and water).
At the moment of our conception the Doshas present themselves in different proportions
to form our unique constitution.
An imbalance of our Doshas and our Agni (the digestive fire) manifests as an illness.
This imbalance can be treated thanks to PanchaKarma cleansing and rejuvenating therapies which (unique to Ayurveda) eliminate physical and mental toxins, improving our overall health, strengthening our immune system hence promoting longevity and vitality.
